
Moynan King

Moynan King is a Toronto based writer, director, performer and Curator. As a theatre director some favourite credits are: RM Vaughan’s The Monster Trilogy, Natalie Meisner’s Lifelike Love, and her own plays Bathory and Simon’s Wife. Moynan is the director of Hysteria: A Festival of Women, and is the founder and director of Cheap Queers. She is currently in her fifth season as Associate Artist at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre. Moynan is the author of several plays: The Proust Sisters (co-written with Kirsten Johnson), Bathory, Sold, Head of Snakes, Simon’s Wife and The Importance of Being Beautiful. She is currently working on a new play entitled Saints of the Belle Epoque. She has been the dramaturg on many new Canadian plays as well as the dramaturg for the Toronto Women’s Caucus of PGC for 4 years. As an actor Moynan has over fifty professional film, theatre and TV credits. Moynan’s solo and collaborative performance pieces have been presented across Canada and the US. The Beauty Salon, a full scale performance installation was presented in June at Buddies and a companion piece, Walk In Clinic, was presented as part of the 2007 Hysteria festival. She recently developed a new performance entitled Mothering which was the focus of a residency in Montreal at Studio 303 this season and was presented at Articule in Montreal and by FADO at Xpace in Toronto. Moynan is currently a student of the graduate centre for the study of drama at University of Toronto and an Associate Artist at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.
